Areca palm leaf plates (also sold as palm leaf or areca "bamboo" plates) are pressed from naturally fallen areca (betel-nut) palm leaf sheaths. No trees are cut, and in their plain form no chemicals or coatings are added. Below are the standard formats we manufacture and export in bulk. Importing areca into the United States

Read this before you order, because most suppliers will not put it in writing.

Dinnerware made from the leaf sheaths of the Areca catechu palm sits under FDA Import Alert 23-15. The alert permits FDA to detain such shipments without physical examination. We do not claim that our areca is FDA compliant, approved, certified or cleared, and we will not tell you the alert does not apply to us, because it does.

What we can tell you is our record. We ship areca into the United States and 15 of our areca shipments have cleared since the alert was issued. That is a record, not a guarantee about your container, and FDA may detain any consignment regardless of it. Pre-alert history from any supplier proves nothing, because it describes a period when the alert did not exist. The question worth asking every supplier, including us, is how many consignments they have cleared since the alert.

Bagasse, bamboo and sorghum tableware sit outside the scope of this alert. That is not an approval, and it is a different thing from being cleared.
